1) Consistency is key. Getting physical activity on a regular basis is the only way to get in good shape. Progress is made in small strides and maintained by staying consistent. Not every workout is going to be better than the last one, but you will gradually improve your workouts the more often you do it.

2) Make a plan. Walk into the gym with a purpose. Do not leave until you have completed everything you intended to do.

3) Prepare for your workouts. Getting good sleep, eating healthy food, and staying hydrated are all very important to your workout. If one of these 3 things is lacking, it could cause you to feel lethargic and ruin your workout.

4) If possible with your schedule, workout at the same time everyday. This could be right when you wake up, as soon as you get off work, or even right before you go to sleep. We are creatures of habit. This will become a routine for you and help you stay consistent.

5) Log your workouts. This allows you to track your goals accurately and strive for improvement. As you keep logging your workouts over time, you will have a large reference of different workouts that you know how to do.
